Abstract

CRUZ BARANDA, Silvia Sofía. The Development of Cognitive Independence among Students of Architecture. au [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.2, pp.140-145. ISSN 1815-5898.

This article responds to the need to develop the cognitive independence of students of architecture, as a way to guarantee competence in the performance of their social and professional tasks after graduation. It presents the primary concepts which enabled the author to propose a methodological structure for the first topic of the module entitled Advanced and Traditional Prefabrication. Subsequently, the article describes the organization and sequencing of the students’ learning process, from the consultation of the pertinent literature to the tackling of specific assignments, designed with a focus on real-professional-life problems and requiring students to mobilize cognitive resources which favour autonomy in the mastery of new content and responsibility in the construction of knowledge.

Keywords : cognitive independence; teaching assignments; independent work; orientation; evaluation of independent work.
