This paper is the result of a research project developed at the Universidad Regional Autonoma de los Andes UNIANDES-Quevedo to address the problems that exist in the students of Basic General Superior of the Educational Unit INSUTEC to solve matrices responds to the following problem How can information facilitate the resolution of operations with matrices? The general objective of this work is to develop educational software for teaching and learning operations with matrices for high school students. A whole research process was deployed through various methods such as: observation, inductive-deductive, analytical-synthetic, systemic model and techniques used as the survey and interviews where the most significant result about the educational software, inserted in the General Basic Higher Education of the educational unit of the city of Quevedo, as an interactive tool to help students on the understanding of operations with matrices and teachers of the area of Mathematics to perform the transfer of knowledge in an assertive way, thus achieving a cognitive learning in students. In software engineering, the Spiral development model was applied, which gave a great advantage to be in constant improvement of the product.
