Abstract

The work raises the need to promote sustainable tourism, based on the potential of the locality, capable of preserving the values and culture of the region, generating jobs, creating social development and originating in SMEs. Likewise, the role that current conditions require of universities in the training of entrepreneurs is highlighted. It highlights too, the need for participation and support from local governments in the search for this development. It is concluded with the sample of a set of actions and results made in this practice by the Autonomous Regional University of the Andes and especially its tourism career. Finally, the example of the PyMES "El Porvenir, Cantón Santiago de Píllaro of the province of Tungurahua" is shown with successful results in its link with the community, in the preservation and adequate use of the environment, in connection with the university and as support for the formation and creation of these values ​​in the new generations.
