Abstract
LOPEZ CEDENO, Kimberly Magaly; PUPO BLANCO, Yoannia Gretel; ARIAS CEDENO, Quirino and TORRES-RODRIGUEZ, Juan Antonio. Uses of clitoria ternatea l. for communities of the canton La Maná, Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.3, pp. 49-54. Epub June 30, 2024. ISSN 2218-3620.
The frequent presence of Clitoriaternatea L. in gardens and small plots in urban and sub-urban areas of the canton of La Maná, province of Cotopaxi, indicates an interest among residents in its cultivation; therefore, this work was carried out with the objective of revealing the importance of this relationship through an ethnobotanical study. The research was descriptive, with a non-experimental approach. A survey was applied to 46 inhabitants of two parishes, aimed at investigating the uses attributed to the species, its management, as well as the possible allelopathic potential. The data were analyzed with the SPSS statistical program. The species is known by 17 common names. Within the eight attributed uses, medicinal had the highest frequency of citations, especially by young people, and the flower, the organ most used in that sense. A statistically different perception was observed between rural and urban residents in relation to considering C. ternatea a weed. In general, positive effects on the soil and a possible allelopathic potential are recognized, citing effects on the growth of other plants.
