Abstract
MORALES CHACON, Odalys de las Mercedes and LEGRA VIERA, María Eugenia. Challenges in implementing the policy for improving the English language learning. RP [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.3, pp. 107-119. Epub Mar 08, 2024. ISSN 2308-3042.
The new reforms in the English language training at university level in Cuba have generated major challenges with significant impact on the teaching learning process. Despite all the work that has been done to date, further actions are still required, expressly in terms of the elements involved in the delivery of the English courses to promote an effective learning. Thus, this article aims at identifying the challenges in implementing the policy for improving the English language learning in Cuban higher education in order to highlight key priorities. The changes in the English training process resulting from the present language policy constitute fundamental requirements of the comprehensive professional training in the current context. It is crucial to accelerate the familiarization of teachers and students with the new paradigms alongside the effective and coherent integration of the components of the comprehensive English learning system for a successful policy implementation, which call for the early identification of challenges and priorities to systematically search for available alternatives to overcome the limitations.
